Beasley’s Forge is nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Our Blacksmith shop and knife shop are located in Marshall.
This is basically a family hobby / business. My father is retired from the Steel industry moved back to the place he grew up with his extensive knowledge of the steel making process in tow. He recovered an old forge which had been in the family many years ago from when they sharpened bits as they cut the path for the Blue Ridge Parkway. The process of forging different steels together intrigued him and so we were off. Utilizing his knowledge it was not long before he had a simple piece containing 5 or 6 layers. From there we tried other methods and materials. We got some bushhog blades that came off an industrial size machine. Using the forge, my brother and myself used two sledgehammers to hammer and fold and hammer and fold some more. The result was amazing and we were hooked. We have over time added new equipment to the process to make the task less physical. Our shop now includes a 100 lb power trip hammer, a 100 ton hydraulic press and the forge is now oil fired. But back to the early days, you see the goal was to make the steel and we did. So we took what we had and began making knives. Long knives, hunting knives, skinning knives etc. We found that cutting and shaping this steel was hard as the layers and the hammer forging made the steel tough. We used simple grindstones to work them out. This was laborious and didn't really produce the consistent finish we were after. Then one day my father found a high speed sander at the local flea market. This unlocked the shaping and finishing problem. The parts continued to fall into place which allowed us to further refine the knives we made. We then decided that the knives we created would be unique and one of a kind. We have honed the material, we have honed our craft and continue to do so with each knife pushing out a little farther than the last.
I also have a brother who makes more Long knives such as Bowies and Hunters. We will be including some pages for those knives shortly.
We have sold knives to people all over the world. Notably Hong Kong, Paris, London.
